Starting with an interest in architecture spawned by a course at Yale in the 50s and 30 years in the advertising business, Ira Thomas discovered the creative opportunities of digital photography when he retired to Santa Fe, NM. Not satisfied with shooting traditional landscapes, he has forged a style that often pushes the envelope of contrast and darkness against minimal but treasured light. He seeks intimate nature settings that beg the viewer to investigate the subtleties and emotions of the capture. His work has been selected for juried shows around Phoenix, and he had a one-man show at the prestigious Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, OH, where his work is included in its permanent collection. Ira has self published over 10 photography books including his most recent, Retrospective 2016 and essence 2.0.
